The Christmas song, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ has the phrase, “…it is the happiest season of all.” While that may be true for many, for the needy and homeless it may be the saddest season of all. We are planning for our annual Christmas Eve event and getting ready to bring a little happiness to those that come into our shelters over the holiday season.
We decorate our dining area with a large Christmas tree and other decorations and there is an air of excitement around the CRM. During December we collect items for our gift bags, and winter coats for our shelter guests. On Christmas Eve after a nice Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, we give each shelter guest a new sweatshirt, a large gift bag full of needed items, and the opportunity to pick out a winter coat. Our special Christmas Eve chapel service is a highlight of the evening.
Our shelter guests who are away from friends and family and have no home of their own are grateful for the love and kindness being shown to them during the holidays. Merry Christmas!
